Adam started his career in 1994 as an Enrolled Nurse. He undertook a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Technology, Sydney and graduated in 2000. Adam completed his post graduate program where he worked in a number of different areas such as medical, surgical, intensive care, emergency and mental health. He found emergency very interesting and challenging. Adam then spent 5 years working in an emergency department where he completed a Graduate Certificate in Emergency. Adam was particularly interested in trauma and served on the trauma committee.
Adam was fascinated by the range and complexity of people presenting at the emergency department with mental health, drug & alcohol and physical problems whilst also noticing that these were often connected in some way in every presentation. He decided to make a career change which led him to a position in a mental health facility.
Adam worked in a mental health facility for a 4 year period where he became Clinical Nurse Specialist. He then moved into Primary Health Care Sector and worked alongside General Practitioners. Adam completed his Masters in Health Science at University of Newcastle and became credentialed in 2011 with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
Adam ensures he is up to date with contemporary practice. He is also a casual Academic at the University of Newcastle where he teaches two post graduate courses in mental health. Adam is also a teacher for year 5 medical students and writes material for course developement. He is also the research assistant for Professor Sally Chan from the University of Newcastle.
