DBT

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills Group

Our DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) skills group is aimed at helping people learn important coping skills, that will allow them to be able to better manage their emotions, actions, distress, and thoughts effectively. People who attend our skills group actively participate in a process that enables them to acquire new skills. In the DBT Skills group we focus on the here and now and how to respond differently with what comes up in a more effective way.

Over a total of 21 weeks the group will be learning four sets of skills, these are: Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Mindfulness.

Mindfulness Practice

Mindfulness skills are central to the DBT skills group, these underpin and support all the other DBT skills. Mindfulness skills will help you be more aware and engage with your ability to be in the present moment. Mindfulness is a way of living with your eyes wide open.

Emotional Regulation

These skills can help with managing your emotional states, before emotions take over and result in being less effective, making situations worse.

Distress Tolerance

These skills will help you to tolerate and accept distress, in understanding that pain and distress are part of living and cannot be eliminated totally.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

These skills will teach you how to be more effective in your interpersonal relationships. How to gain and maintain relationships and how to decrease interpersonal isolation.

Who is DBT Skills Group for?

It’s for anyone who struggles with their emotions and find themselves experiencing intense emotional states that overwhelm them, even causing them to have suicidal thoughts.

It’s for those who experience significant difficulties in their interpersonal relationships, that lead to conflict, which can lead to situations where it’s difficult to maintain and keep important people in our lives.

DBT skills, helping people live a life worth living.
